Topics Covered

For plan sponsors, service providers, and advisors, here’s some of what was covered:

  • Most significant plan design changes, including coverage for adult dependent children until age 26, the prohibition on preexisting condition limits for individuals under age 19, the elimination of lifetime limits for essential health benefits, and the new rules on preventive health services, emergency services, pediatric care, and ob/gyn care.
  • Most significant administrative changes, including new external review procedures for benefit appeals and the new summary of benefits and coverage.
  • What plans are excepted from which new mandates? We’ll address whether current rules for HIPAA-excepted benefits (including retiree-only plans, and vision and dental plans) continue to apply to certain of the new requirements.
  • Impact of the grandfathered plan rule. We’ll also address health care reform’s special “grandfathered plan” rule, what it means, and which new requirements apply even to grandfathered plans.
  • Planning for 2010 open enrollment and beyond. We’ll share our suggestions for how to triage the most significant changes, plus how to plan for the necessary changes to plan documents, SPDs, open enrollment materials, and other impending employee communications.

Please Note: Legislative corrections and regulatory guidance are expected to start flowing soon! Our speakers will bring you the latest guidance and analysis as of the date of the seminar.
