Melanie N. Aska (since 2006). Ms. Knox is a senior editor at EBIA. Before joining EBIA, she practiced law for 23 years, primarily in the employee benefits area. She was a shareholder and head of the employee benefits practice group of a large Milwaukee-based law firm. Ms. Knox received her law degree in 1983 from the University of Wisconsin and her masters degree in 1980 from Princeton University.

Katherine J. Alexander (since 2004). Ms. Alexander is Senior Director, Benefits Publications at EBIA. Before joining EBIA, she practiced law for 19 years, primarily in the employee benefits area. She was a partner in the Seattle law firm of Ryan, Swanson & Cleveland PLLC. Ms. Alexander received her law degree in 1984 from the University of Washington, where she was a member of the editorial staff of the Washington Law Review.
Cheryl Risley Hughes (since 2004). Ms. Hughes is a principal with Sanders, Schnabel & Brandenburg, PC, an employee benefits law firm located in Washington, D.C. Ms. Hughes serves on ECFC’s Technical Advisory Committee. She has an L.L.M. degree in Taxation and a Certificate of Study in Employee Benefits Law from Georgetown University Law Center and graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1995.
John R. Hickman (since 2004). Mr. Hickman is a partner in the Employee Benefits Practice Group with Alston + Bird LLP in Atlanta. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White 2007), and serves as chair of the ECFC’s Technical Advisory Committee. He received his law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1989, and was awarded the Order of the Coif.
John L. Barlament (since 2004). Mr. Barlament is a partner with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in Milwaukee, where he advises employers, administrators, brokers, and benefit consultants on all aspects of employee benefits law. He has spoken nationally on a variety of employee benefit topics and is a frequent author on these topics. Mr. Barlament received his law degree from Duke University School of Law in 1997.

Melanie K. Curtice (since 2004). Ms. Curtice is a partner with Stoel Rives LLP in Seattle. Ms. Curtice received her law degree in 1998 from Seattle University School of Law, cum laude, and was executive articles editor of the Seattle University Law Review.
